Intercultural Mentoring program 2018/19 officially "kicked off"

This year's intercultural mentoring program boasts with a whopping number of nearly 300 participants – over 200 joined us at our kick-off event on October 18, 2018. International students at the beginning of their studies (mentees) and experienced students from various faculties (mentors) gathered in a central university building and were in an incredibly enthusiastic mood as this date marks the official beginning of their mentoring relationship and most of them met personally for the first time.

A former participant in the program's first run in the past winter term shared her experiences from the previous year. Then, she had registered as a mentee and was now able to express her empathy for the needs of the new international students and offer up her support as a mentor within this year's program.

Following some organizational information about the mentoring relationship and the announcement of a pre-Christmas event which will give all participants the possibility to network beyond their individual mentoring relationships, the final item on our agenda was the highlight of this event: the personal meeting of mentors and mentees - which proved to be a great challenge due to the large number of participants. Thanks to everyone for your patience and good humour - the majority of the mentors and mentees managed to get in contact with each other. All others will arrange individual meetings within the next few days. As of this event, all participants of the program will meet within their mentoring tandems or groups on a regular basis over the course of this semester.

We wish all participants good luck and a successful start into the semester. We will be more than happy to accompany your mentoring relationships and ask everybody to get in touch with us if there are any problems - especially those of the seemingly unsolvable kind.
