Fantastic weather – fantastic mentors: Intercultural Mentoring has started

We are very happy to welcome almost 100 mentors to the intercultural mentoring program in the winter term 18/19. Students from different faculties at the University of Freiburg have joined the pool of mentors, among them many former participants of last year’s program, offering up their previous experience as mentors or mentees. United in their goal to help international students get a good start at the beginning of their studies within a mentoring relationship, they want to support their mentees on an individual basis to quickly establish contacts, give competent support on how to organize their studies and show them what studying at a German university is really like. In a one-to-one mentoring relationship or within small groups, the mentees will have the opportunity to explore this new culture.

The focus of the “Get-together of Mentors” event was to get to know all other mentors and to develop a common understanding of mentoring. Thanks to the active participation of the mentors we worked out the dos and don’ts of mentoring and the role of mentors. 

The Kompetenznetzwerk Studierendenmentoring will recruit the mentees within the upcoming weeks. After the matching process mentors and mentees will then meet personally at the Kick-off-Event on October 18, 2018 as the official beginning of the mentoring relationship.
